I got Tagged! The Cynical Mud Babe thinks I might have something entertaining to add to the tag chain. At least I get to write about my favorite subject. And if I don't, I'll get 7 years of bad luck or something like that. :)
1- How would you describe your running 10 years ago?
So the first test is remembering what I was doing 10 years ago. My oldest was 10, my youngest was 2. I was 39. I was probably plodding along, maybe not running that year. Just trying to juggle my running with raising a family. I had dabbled with ultras around 1995 or so, but dropped it when too much time was required. I need to dig up my running logs and find out what I was really doing.
I checked the closet and found Peachtree shirts from 1998. So I was running enough to make that one. And I volunteered the start that year too.
2-What is your best and worst run/race experience?
Best: Hard to say. I loved the two trail half's I ran this year. I loved the 50K I did in the snow way back when. Peachtree 10K is always a party. Running in the woods is always good.
Worst: Injuries. Anything that prevents the next run. Unscheduled pit stops with no TP available. Running out of water in Georgia in August with no shade in sight. Sleeping through the alarm for the Peachtree and missing the whole darn thing.
3- Why do you run?
I ran in high school to cope with the teenager deal. Nothing serious, just for fun. Carried on into college, still coping. Then not much until around 35 and my first mid-life crisis (my wife says I'm on my third one now). I started running to stay in shape for the kids. Running off and on for the next 15 years but never really consistent.
So now I'm looking at 50 next year and I'm on track for 1000+ miles this year. I've dropped about 40 lbs since January. If I don't run for 2 days, I get antsy. The whole chemical thing has kicked in. I'm having more fun than ever.
Why do you run? It's me time. It makes me feel good. It makes me feel good about myself. It's all about me. :)
4- What is the best or worst piece of advice you've been given about running?
The good: Run your own race. Don't let being slow keep you from running. Enjoy the journey. Start slow and taper off.
The bad: You'll damage your knees/legs/feet. You're lungs will freeze. You'll be hit by a car. You'll have a heart attack. You'll make me feel guilty. (That last one is inferred)
5- Tell us something surprising about yourself that not many people would know.
I didn't drink alcohol until my 4th year at college and I got dumped by a girl for the first time. Beer was my friend for 6 months or so. Then I met Janis, the lovely wife, and went back on the wagon. But those 6 months convinced me that I enjoyed the beer way too much. So "no beer for me", Soup-Nazi-style. :)
Now I'm supposed to tag 5 other people so these are the people whose answers I'd really like to read:
Funky Legs
Grimey Runner
Rahn
Donald
Lori
Here are the rules guidelines:
If you have been tagged, you will find your name at the end of this post. You should then, copy the rules (or your version of them), and the set of questions onto your blog post, provide your own answers, and then tag 5 new people.
Just to be sure that everyone tagged knows they have been invited to play, go to their blogs and leave them a special comment letting them know, and refer them to your blog for details.
One more thing, once they've answered the questions on their own blog, they should come back to yours to tell you.

Hi David,
I've posted my answers....
thanks for the tag
Lori
OK, I'll take it - but you need to give me a while. No worries.
Okay, I'll take you up on your tagging challenge, but got some other things going on so it will be a little while.
(Plus the fact that I'll actually need to think is sure to delay me.)
Definitely had mixed feelings about passing this on. Feels somewhat like an internet fwd or chain mail.
But at least it's not asking for your favorite of the Jonas Brothers or did you think David Cook or David Archuleta should win the Idol.
I mean, David Cook was obviously the better entertainer. Much more marketable. I don't care how cute the 12 year old girls think the Archuleta is. He just didn't have the total package.
Wait, what were we talking about?
